Only about 1% of the water in Great Lakes leave the Great Lake's Basin a year.
The Great lakes are 2.58 million years old because it formed after the last ice age! Larger than Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York combined. From east to west the Great Lakes are 750 miles. Contains about 20% of the world's freshwater. Yet, it contains 84% of North America's surface freshwater. The Great Lakes contain drinking water for millions.
The Great Lakes, holds more than six quadrillion gallons of water! More than 30 million people live in the Great Lakes Basin. Only the polar ice caps contain more freshwater in the world. Eight states and Canada surround the Great Lakes.
